
COLOMBO (News 1st) - Plans are underway to establish emergency disaster response units at the Divisional Secretariat level, in preparation for possible disasters that may occur with the onset of rainy weather conditions.Minister of Environment Dr. Dhammika Patabendi said the local emergency response centres will operate in coordination with the District Disaster Management Centres.The Minister said the establishment of these emergency disaster response centres at Divisional Secretariat level will be carried out within the next two weeks.Meanwhile, the Minister said preparedness drills will also begin within the next two weeks to ensure an effective response to the anticipated weather conditions.
