COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka produced a fierce all-round performance to register a commanding victory over Pakistan in their ODI Tri-Series clash in Lahore, with the visitors completely overpowering the hosts after bowling them out for a paltry 110.
The match belonged to Sri Lanka from the moment their bowlers found their rhythm.
After electing to field first, the Lankan attack ripped through Pakistan's batting line-up, exposing the hosts' struggles against disciplined pace and relentless pressure. Pakistan never recovered from the early setbacks, losing wickets at regular intervals as Sri Lanka tightened their grip on the contest.
While Babar Azam attempted to steady the innings with 29 runs, no Pakistani batter was able to build a meaningful partnership. Once Babar departed, the collapse accelerated, with the home side crashing from 61 for 4 to eventually be dismissed for just 110 in 25.3 overs.
The architect of Pakistan's downfall was Dilshan Madushanka.
Madushank was outstanding, claiming five wickets and tearing through both the middle and lower order. His aggressive pace, sharp bounce and accurate execution left Pakistan with no answers as he finished with superb figures of 5 for 34.
He was supported brilliantly by Sahan Arachchige, who grabbed two wickets, while Asitha Fernando, Eshan Malinga and Dunith Wellalage chipped in with one wicket each to complete a clinical bowling display.
Chasing just 111 for victory, Sri Lanka approached the task with complete confidence.
Opener Kamindu Mendis anchored the chase superbly with an unbeaten 62, combining composure with authority as the visitors steadily closed in on the target. Pavan Rathnayake provided valuable support with an unbeaten 23 as the pair guided Sri Lanka home without any late drama.
Sri Lanka eventually reached 114 for 2 in just 18.1 overs, sealing an eight-wicket victory and underlining their growing momentum in the tournament.
