Sri Lanka aims to increase its total export earnings to more than US$ 36 billion by 2030, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe said. The Minister made the remarks during a meeting with Commercial Officers of the Department of Commerce serving at Sri Lankan diplomatic missions overseas. The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing programmes and discussing strategic priorities to further strengthen the promotion of trade, investment, tourism and skilled employment opportunities in support of the Government’s economic development agenda. Addressing Commercial Officers serving at Sri Lankan missions in 23 commercially significant markets, the Minister stressed the importance of their role in advancing Sri Lanka’s trade and broader economic interests in international markets. He also highlighted the need to deliver measurable outcomes through market development, export promotion, investment facilitation and strengthening international business linkages. Minister Samarasinghe further urged the officers to align their efforts with the targets of the National Export Development Plan, including the goal of increasing Sri Lanka’s total export earnings to over US$ 36 billion by 2030.
