Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) President Jaswar Umar has been unanimously elected as Vice President of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) at the SAFF Executive Committee meeting held in Bhutan. Umar received the backing of all seven SAFF member associations — India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The appointment comes just over two years after Umar assumed the presidency of the FFSL. During his tenure, Sri Lanka’s FIFA ranking has improved from 207 to 187, marking the country’s highest position in more than 15 years. His administration has also focused on governance reforms, strengthening domestic competitions, expanding youth and grassroots football, and promoting long-term football development. In addition to his new SAFF role, Umar currently serves as a member of the FIFA Grassroots Football Committee and the AFC Development Committee.
