COLOMBO (News1st); The United Nations Human Rights Council is set to receive the most recent report on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka during its upcoming regular session in Geneva.
The report will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council on September 7, as the international body convenes its 63rd regular session from September 7 to October 7, 2026, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The session is scheduled to open at 10.00 a.m. on Monday, September 7, under the presidency of Ambassador Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro of Indonesia. The opening meeting will be addressed by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.
Throughout the month-long session, the Council is expected to hold 37 interactive dialogues involving Special Procedures mandate holders, expert mechanisms and investigative mechanisms. Discussions will also focus on reports and updates submitted by the High Commissioner, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the United Nations Secretary-General.
Among the matters scheduled to be considered during the session is a written update from the Office of the High Commissioner on efforts to promote reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka.
