COLOMBO (News 1st);Due to heavy rainfall experienced in the upper and middle catchment areas of the Kelani River basin, the Irrigation Department has warned that a minor flood situation could develop within the next 48 hours.This warning has been issued for low-lying areas of the Kelani River valley belonging to the Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, and Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat Divisions.The Irrigation Department also noted that there is a severe risk of a rapid rise in the river's water level, as high-intensity heavy rains are likely to continue.Disaster management authorities have urged residents in the affected areas, as well as those using the river, to remain highly vigilant and exercise caution due to the prevailing situation.
