COLOMBO (News 1st);With the heavy rainfall, 16 houses in Kitulkotte in Nawalapitiya have been inundated.The Disaster Management Center says that the residents of those houses have been temporarily relocated to safe locations.Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in a low-lying area near the Mahaweli River as well. Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation says that water levels in the Mahaweli River are rising in Peradeniya due to the heavy rainfall.The Department further warns that a minor flood situation could occur within the next 48 hours in low-lying areas along the Kelani River, particularly in the Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, and Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat Divisions.This is due to the rainfall experienced in the upper and middle catchment areas of the Kelani River basin.
