COLOMBO (News 1st); Andy Burnham has officially become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after being invited by King Charles III to form a government, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
The appointment follows the resignation of Keir Starmer earlier on Monday, marking the completion of a significant leadership transition in British politics. Following constitutional tradition, Burnham travelled to Buckingham Palace after Starmer formally tendered his resignation to the King.
In an official statement, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles III invited Burnham to form a government and that he accepted the invitation, officially assuming office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The transition also makes Burnham Britain's latest prime minister during a period of frequent leadership changes in recent years.
