The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Warning for strong winds and rough seas in deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal as a deep depression is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm. The system, located over the Southeast Bay of Bengal, intensified into a deep depression at 5.30 a.m. on November 1 and is expected to develop into a cyclone before intensifying further into a severe cyclonic storm. It is forecast to move west-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast by 5.30 a.m. on November 3. Wind speeds in the affected sea areas could reach 70–80 kmph, accompanied by heavy thundershowers and very rough seas. The Department has warned naval and fishing communities not to venture into deep-sea areas bounded by 10°N–15°N and 80°E–90°E until further notice. Those already operating in the affected areas have been advised to move to safer locations. (Newswire)
