Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Public Health Inspectors have discovered stocks of rotten, mouldy and insect-damaged fruits, including apples, grapes and oranges, during a surprise inspection in Pettah. Colombo Mayor Vraîe Cally Balthazaar said the inspection was carried out following reports that some traders were bringing fruits unfit for human consumption in lorries and selling them directly on pavements. She said steps had been taken to initiate legal action against those responsible. The Mayor stressed that such practices did not involve all traders but warned that unsafe fruits sold in Pettah could pose health risks to people across Sri Lanka, as the market supplies food to many parts of the country. She said the CMC would continue inspections and take strict action against those selling food unfit for human consumption.  (NewsWire) The post CMC cracks down on sale of rotten fruits in Pettah appeared first on Newswire.
