The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, together with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), on Monday (15) launched “LankaKonect”, a mobile application aimed at improving complaint management and access to support services for Sri Lankan migrant workers worldwide. The application was launched by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath at a ceremony in Colombo attended by Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra, ILO Country Director Joni Simpson, representatives of diplomatic missions, senior government officials and development partners. Representatives of Sri Lankan missions abroad also joined the event virtually. Developed in collaboration with the ministry, the ILO and the SLBFE, with technical support from Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the application provides migrant workers with a centralized platform to submit complaints and requests for assistance, track the progress of their cases and access essential information and support services regardless of their country of employment. The platform digitally integrates the complaint management processes of the SLBFE, the Consular Affairs Division of the ministry and Sri Lankan missions overseas, enabling more coordinated and efficient responses to welfare concerns raised by migrant workers. In addition to complaint management, the application offers access to information and services for Sri Lankans living abroad for employment, education and residential purposes, helping them remain connected with government institutions throughout their migration journey.
