COLOMBO (News 1st); The son of former State Minister Shanta Bandara has been arrested by Colpetty Police in connection with the alleged robbery of Rs. 20 million belonging to a Chinese national.
Police said the suspect, aged 21, was taken into custody as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident, which reportedly took place on July 13.
According to Police Spokesman Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, the robbery allegedly occurred while the Chinese national was transporting the money in a vehicle.
Police stated that four suspects connected to the incident have already been arrested and remanded in custody pending further investigations.
The Police Spokesman also revealed that a grandson of a well-known businessman is among those allegedly linked to the case.
Authorities said the 21-year-old suspect is scheduled to be produced before court as investigations into the alleged robbery continue.
