Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the abuse of a cat seen in a video that recently went viral on social media, Police said. The arrests were made by Talatu Oya Police after members of the Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC) Sri Lanka lodged a complaint over the incident. Police said the two suspects, aged 18 and 19, were arrested in the Athulgama area shortly after the complaint was received. Both are residents of the same area. According to the suspects, the incident had taken place about a month ago. Police said the suspects will be produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court and face charges under Section 411 of the Penal Code, Section 63(a) of the Police Ordinance and laws relating to animal cruelty.
