Six suspects have been arrested with several weapons, a locally manufactured hand grenade and Rs. 300,000 in suspected drug proceeds in the Gona Kovil area of Ratmalana. The Mount Lavinia Police Anti-Corruption Unit recovered three swords, an axe, three daggers, the hand grenade and eight mobile phones from the suspects. The raid was conducted following the arrest of a man with 1,000 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine, known as “ice”, at Arthur’s Place in Ratmalana by an officer attached to the Mount Lavinia Police Special Motorcycle Unit. Police said questioning the suspect led officers to a house allegedly used for drug trafficking. A search of the premises led to the recovery of the weapons, cash and mobile phones, while six suspects were taken into custody. The main suspect is aged 29, while the others are aged 22, 24, 33, 36 and 51. They are residents of Ratmalana, Nawalapitiya and Eheliyagoda. Further investigations are underway.
