A 40-year-old man has been arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police for allegedly filming the roads surrounding the official residences of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chief Justice. Police also seized the mobile phone allegedly used to record the videos. According to police, the suspect had arrived in a luxury vehicle and was seen filming near the entrance to the IGP’s official residence by a Special Task Force (STF) officer on duty. The STF officer alerted a traffic police constable in the area, who in turn informed the Colombo Emergency Division. A police team attached to the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station responded to the location and arrested the suspect after conducting inquiries. Police said a preliminary examination of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed videos of the IGP’s official residence and surrounding roads, as well as the Chief Justice’s official residence and its vicinity. During initial questioning, the suspect reportedly claimed he was recording the videos as a hobby. However, police said he later gave contradictory statements regarding his residence and other details during further questioning. The suspect is a 40-year-old resident of Aruggoda, Alubomulla. Further investigations are being conducted by the Cinnamon Gardens Police.
