COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former State Intelligence Service Director, retired Major General Suresh Salley, can be discharged from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka after a medical board determined that his condition is suitable for release from hospital care, the Attorney General informed the Fort Magistrate's Court today (6).

The disclosure was made when the case was taken up before Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena.

The Attorney General further informed court that suspect Suresh Salley would be taken back into the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this evening following his discharge from hospital.

Salley, the former head of the State Intelligence Service, was arrested on February 25 and subsequently detained under a 90-day detention order for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation.

However, after developing health complications, he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on June 7 and has remained under medical care since then.

Authorities previously informed court that investigations had been hindered due to his prolonged hospitalization, making it difficult to record statements and proceed with inquiries.

As a result, a further 90-day detention order was issued against Salley on August 25 to facilitate the continuation of investigations.
